Can the solution support multiple wireless carriers or is it carrier-specific?

Our solutions are carrier agnostic. We can amplify off-the-air signals from nearby towers or connect via a base transceiver station to each major carrier. The solution that we recommend will depend upon your needs and the constraints of your location.

What factors should I consider when evaluating a solution?

  1. The nature of your need and the value of the business case
  2. The availability of a signal source or sources (& the strength of the outdoor signal if that is an intended source)
  3. The square footage of each building and the proximity of multiple buildings
  4. The number of user devices that will be in use
  5. The amount of data that needs to be transferred

How scalable is the solution? Can it accommodate future growth or changes in technology?

Our solutions provide the most bands and support protocols for both today’s technology and the emerging technologies anticipated over the next several years. No solution is really future-proof, but our solutions anticipate future needs so that you can be future-ready. Our solutions also employ the fewest number of components with maximum extensibility (for either a single or double-star topology) so that your solution can expand with your needs.

How can I determine if my building or campus requires a solution to boost indoor wireless coverage?

Of course, users will let you know if they are experiencing dropped calls or slow data transfer, but there are a variety of factors that you might evaluate:

The use of wireless devices in place of wired telephony for business
Any applications used by your organization or visitors that have demands for high-speed data transfer
Dependency on wireless for any point-of-sale applications or IoT devices
Safety and peace of mind for employees and visitors to your location

About in building cellular repeaters

For businesses, hospitals, and educational institutions, commercial cell phone repeaters can be a blessing. These systems are a dependable solution for capturing and rebroadcasting cellular signal within buildings—improving reception for everyone inside. When properly installed and configured, a commercial cellular repeater can put an end to poor call quality, slow data speeds, and day-to-day disruptions caused by poor cellular signal.

Installing a repeater system is quite the project, however. Below are some tips, methods, and best practices to help get the most from a signal repeater system.

Understand Signal Frequencies

When first starting to install cell phone repeaters for buildings, it’s crucial to pay close attention to cellular carrier frequencies. Some repeaters only enhance signal for specific carriers, so the problem might be that the device doesn’t benefit from that particular technology.

A good way to check for this is by doing a thorough site survey with a signal meter or Cellular Network Scanner. Doing so can also provide details on which carrier’s signals are available and where they’re coming from. In some situations, commercial buildings may only need a cell phone signal repeater for one specific carrier, but this is rare.

Other enterprise cell phone repeaters are capable of providing signals to all devices, regardless of frequency and carrier. These are referred to as carrier-agnostic repeaters. In most commercial settings, there are multiple people coming to and from the building each day. Faculty, staff, students, customers, clients — there will be a plethora of people using devices across several different carriers. Because of this, it’s a good idea to choose a repeater that works on all carriers.

Choose the Right Antenna

The antenna used in a cellular repeater system is typically referred to as a donor antenna. It’s the component that communicates with the cell tower—capturing overhead signal and transmitting it to an amplifier. Most of these are stand-alone antennas, and they’re connected to the repeater by coaxial cable.

Picking the right antenna from the beginning means the difference between a painful installation and a flawless one. To that end, there are two antenna types for most cell phone repeater systems:

  • Directional antennas are designed to point directly at a cell tower —receiving signals from one direction. This type of antenna is best in situations where the signal outside of the building is either too weak or too strong. If signal strength for the installation is below -80dBm or over -45dBm, consider using a directional antenna.
  • Omnidirectional antennas receive cell signals from all directions. In situations where the signal outside the building is sufficient, an omnidirectional antenna is the best option. These antennas are especially useful in situations where the building is obstructing signal. As such, they’re often the best choice for commercial repeater installs.

Preparing before choosing an antenna will help the entire installation process go more smoothly. Be sure to complete a thorough site survey to determine where the signal is needed most and where to place the antenna.

Technology to Improve Cellular Coverage

When it comes to securing consistent reception, the wrong solution for your business can result in an unnecessarily hefty financial investment. Fortunately, there are several wireless solutions for business both large and small.

The most common option for large commercial spaces is a Distributed Antenna System (DAS), which comes in two types: active and passive.

What Is a Distributed Antenna System?

A distributed antenna system (DAS) is a system of antennas that enhance cellular and other radio signals for broader coverage and more consistent reception. A DAS has three main components:

  • Signal source
  • Central repeater unit
  • In-building distribution

How Does Active DAS Work?

An active DAS system uses antennas and fiber optic cables to take a cell signal from a remote source, typically a specific carrier such as AT&T or T-Mobile. The central repeater unit converts the signal from an analog radio frequency to a digital signal and amplifies it. Finally, the DAS system redistributes the enhanced signal over a wide area.

Active DAS systems help enhance the signal to and from cell towers close by to create a secure connection with broad, reliable coverage for all the users on the property.
